Local ‘angels’ send troops Easter cheer and treats
To the Editor:
On March 15, a packing party was held at the Imlay City Senior Center. Fifty-nine boxes were packed with lots of goodies to send to our soldiers serving overseas, including our four-legged soldiers, military working dogs.
Thelma Walker and a group from the Congregational Church in Imlay City provided 1,000 jelly bean-filled plastic Easter eggs that we included in these boxes. Thanks to all who helped fill these eggs and provided the jelly beans.
I want to thank the following for their donations: Jim and Jean Martin for a large cash donation and several items; Nancy Waselowich for her cash donation, jelly beans and other items; Grondin's Beauty School in Lapeer for a cash donation; St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Imlay City for three filled boxes; Peggy Hardy for personal items and beanies; the Pickle Barrel for nuts, candy and other treats; Patsy Thompson, Kay Pauley and Carol Spies for their donations and all the other people that dropped off items at the center of Tri-County Bank or brought with them to pack in these great boxes. If I forgot anyone I am sorry. I get very busy at these parties and it's hard to keep track of everything and everyone that's there.
Thanks to Shelby Lane, Cassie Brozowski and Andrea Gould from the Imlay City High School who donated their time to come and help. You were a huge help and I'm looking forward to having you come back again.
Anyone wishing to check out thank you notes from our soldiers may do so at our Web site, www.desertangel.org.
The next packing party in Imlay City is planned for June 15 at 3 p.m. at the Senior Center. Everyone is welcome and donations can be dropped off anytime from now until then at the center or Tri-County Bank on Newark Rd. Cash donations are especially appreciated as each box costs $12.50 to send and all of our work is done through donations.
