The second annual Project Homeless Connect event is scheduled this year for Jan. 28 at the Lapeer Center Building from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Persons who are homeless, or at risk of becoming homeless, are invited to attend this free event. Participants will receive information and assistance in finding secure housing for themselves and their family. Agencies will man booths with information and applications for their agency services.
Lunch will be served at the event, and a box of food will be given to each participant. Other free services include a dentist, hair cuts, clothing and personal care items. A variety of community agencies will be on hand to answer questions and complete service applications when possible. All services are on a first come first served basis.
We are expecting over 350 people to attend. For free transportation to the event, please call the GLTA 24 hours in advance at 810-664-4566 to arrange a ride.
Volunteers are needed to help on the day of the event. To register to volunteer, call Kelly Lewis at 810-955-1495. To make cash donations call Love Inc. at 810-245-2414. To donate personal care items such as deodorant, toothbrushes and toothpaste, baby diapers, and other household paper items, call the Team Work consignment store at 810-245-7272. Funding for this event was provided in part by the Michigan State Housing Development Authority and the Lapeer Kiwanis. A total of 17 local agencies helped to plan this year's event. Together we hope to eliminate homelessness in our community.
