Donations for veterans, troops always needed
To the Editor:
The Almont American Legion Auxiliary held our annual Christmas party on Dec. 15 at Tietz's Restaurant in Imlay City.
Instead of exchanging gifts, everyone brought white men's socks to be sent to the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans. The home has 650 veterans and an enormous need for white socks.
Thanks to Sharon Mulder and Auxiliary members, we have already sent 150 pair, but we have 46 more to go.
We welcome all donations, which can be dropped in the Auxiliary box at the Henry Stephens Memorial Library, 213 W. St. Clair, Almont, from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Thursday; 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday.
Also, any items for the veterans such as men's mittens, stump socks, slippers, hats, scarves, lap robes (must be at least 45 inches square with no fringe,) articles for our troops such as dickies, helmet liners, fingerless gloves, ear warmers, small gifts for women's veterans outpatient clinic in Detroit and sheets and blankets for the homeless veteran's center are welcome.
Please put articles in a plastic bag and include your name and phone number. We attach a card with your name on each article, as the veterans like the personal touch.
The Almont American Legion Auxiliary, the veterans and troops thank you.
