History is progressive

To the Editor:

Several people have contacted me regarding last week's letter about conservatives going against the natural flow of history (Letters to the Editor, TCT 11/04/09). They wondered what I was getting at.

What I meant to convey was a sense of how many so-called conservatives today really aren't into conserving anything but are actively trying to reverse the normal course of history—the history of Western civilization in particular.

From the slavery of ancient Greece to the liberal democracies of today, the only time when no progress was made toward establishing more equality, more rights and more freedom for the average person is known as the Dark Ages.

It's hard to think of the record of humanity as being anything but progressive in nature and in America this is especially true. In the end history is progressive, not conservative.
