Support library through annual silent auction

To the Editor:

The Friends of the Ruth Hughes Memorial District Library will be hosting its Silent Auction from Nov. 16-21. This has become an exciting event, eagerly anticipated by the patrons of the library as well as the entire community.

Friends, neighbors and businesses can donate their services, new items, antiques, craft items, jewelry, paintings, gift certificates or other articles of value. The items are placed on display for the participants. Using a special number, the value hunters can bid on the items. Bidders return from time-to-time to check on their bids and increase the amount if necessary. The highest bidder at the end of the auction receives the item. It is really quite fun and there is often a real battle to be the last bidder on the final day.

The earned money will be used to purchase items for the library—furniture, books, videos, DVDs, brochure files, Summer Reading entertainment and craft supplies. People in the community are making great use of the library. It is busier than ever, whether for reading, storytime, doing research, using the computer lab or just sitting in the lovely facility.

Again, we are asking for support of the auction. If you are able to donate an item, a service or a gift certificate, it would be greatly appreciated. Please call the Imlay City branch at 810-724-8043 and one of our friends will come and pick it up. You can drop your donation off at the library also. Thank you for your support.
