The Imlay City High School boys' varsity soccer team was in their district tournament this past week. They had beaten Almont and Memphis to advance to the finals on Friday against Armada.
As a parent of one of the players, I had called the businesses around town who have lighted signs to see if they could put up on their signs "Go IC boys' soccer, beat Armada!'' Today (Friday, October 23) I did not see one business with their sign up. Now come on, can't you support our schools and a sports team who has never won a district tournament? I know that you want those students to come to your business and buy from you. What about your supporting them?
This is sad. I have seen in other communities the support of their teams on their restaurant signs. I have even seen signs welcoming you into their towns saying such things as "Welcome to Cardinal Country!''
I think that lately we need a little bit of some good news around here. Who knows, with the state continuing to cut the funding for schools, one day we may not have sports for the kids to have fun with.
Please support the schools and our kids!
