FLC benefits from grants

To the Editor:

The Family Literacy Center is thrilled to announce two recent grant awards, $1,000 from the Lapeer County Community Foundation and $5,400 from the United Way of Lapeer County.

The grant from the Lapeer County Community Foundation is for the purchase of computer equipment. The Center plans to purchase a laptop, projector and speakers which are greatly needed at presentations and trainings. The funds awarded by United Way will support programs offered through the Family Literacy Center. United Way has been a strong and consistent supporter of the Center for many years.

The Center is striving to meet the growing needs of our community in a challenging financial climate. To do this, they will also be holding their annual Camel Races on October 16 at the Lapeer Center Building. Tickets for this event are $25/pair and are on sale now. Sponsorships at many levels are still available.

The Family Literacy Center greatly appreciates the strong support provided by those in our community. If you have any questions, please contact them at 810-664-2737 or by email at ican@readlapeer.org.
