The Tall Pine Council— Boy Scouts of America conducted their final Awards Ceremony for their Soccer & Scouting program on Tuesday, August 4th at the Weston Elementary Soccer Field in Imlay City.
The awards presented included trophies for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winner of the Soccer Skills test incorporated with the program.
The Soccer & Scouting program was organized with the help of Angelita McCoy and Norma Young from the Imlay City Hispanic Service Center. To fund the program, the Tall Pine Council - Boy Scouts of America received a generous grant of $9,864 from the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) of Outstate Michigan. Ronald McDonald House Charities seeks, finds and supports programs that directly improve the health and well being of children.
Soccer & Scouting brings together the fastest-growing youth sport in the United States and the world's premier character building institution for boys and young adults. Soccer & Scouting provides an entrée to diverse populations through the vehicle of soccer. All of the materials for Soccer & Scouting are provided in both English and Spanish to accommodate this growing audience. Through positive leadership and support, these youngsters will learn important life skills that promote responsible citizenship in the home, school, and community.
For 90 years, the Tall Pine Council has supported five programs including Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Venturing, Learning for Life and Exploring, and has supported Scouting opportunities to over 11,000 young men and women in our community.
