I would like to take a minute and apologize for the unsportsmanlike display by the Almont Babe Ruth baseball team and coaches, of which my sons are a part of, at the Imlay City tournament this past weekend.
North Branch went ahead late in the game and Almont didn't have the time to come back because of the one and a half hour time limit. So, after they reluctantly shook hands, they went back and threw their equipment around like spoiled two year-olds and didn't even stand on the fence and show acknowledgement to the North Branch team while they received their championship trophies.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure when I coached—and I coached most of the players at one time or more on that team—that it was more about playing hard and playing fair. I always told my players be a gracious winner and never be a sore loser.
I hope that everyone that was involved at this incident reads it and realizes the black eye they have given the town of Almont and its young athletes.
Almont will be traveling to North Branch this weekend to play in their tournament. I only pray they come there with better attitude than the one they left Imlay City with Sunday afternoon.
