We wish to express our appreciation to Ian Kempf and the Lapeer County Agricultural Society Board of Directors for their generous donation of the use of the wonderful Eastern Michigan Fairgrounds for our annual American Cancer Society Relay for Life event. Because of their cooperation and assistance, we were able to raise over $151,000 for cancer research and patient services.
When we were offered the use of the fairgrounds four years ago, I hadn't seen it for quite some time. I was pleasantly surprised how much it had changed. With all the improvements that have been made over the years, it has developed into a first class facility. And with the current board and Ian running things, it has been become a jewel and a regional landmark.
For a Relay for Life, it is perfect, because it has the track, RV hookups, restrooms, several large buildings and great visibility from M-53. We feel there is no better place anywhere in the state to hold this type of event.
Lapeer County is lucky to have such a great facility, which gives residents and visitors alike the opportunity to enjoy a wide variety of events. We hope we can continue to be welcome to use the fairgrounds for many years to come, as we strive to defeat cancer once and for all.
Thank you to all concerned.
Laird Kellie, Logistics Coordinator, Lapeer County ACS Relay for Life, Mayfield Twp.
