Capac unions, voters shouldn’t be criticized

To the Editor:

One of the great things about living in the United States of America is that we have freedom of speech. This freedom allows many different viewpoints to be heard and I think this opportunity makes our country strong.

Mr. Naeyaert, in his letter to the editor in the May 13 issue, made it clear that he does not care for unions. I think unions are a protection for the working class that our ancestors fought for so that ordinary workers can make a respectable living, work in a safe environment and are treated fairly. If all of those conditions were being met in the past, there would not have been a need for unions.

I have been a teacher for 14 years in the Capac district and have been treated very well by the parents/guardians of my students over the years. These parents/guardians have been supportive and caring and are looking out for the best interests of their children. There are so many great kids in the Capac community and they deserve the best we can give them. If this community voted in new board members, then they must have wanted a change in leadership.
