Almont Am. Legion Auxiliary seeks support for Veterans
To the Editor:
"The measure of a man may be his willingness to serve his country. The measure of a country may be its willingness to honor those who served."
The Almont American Legion Auxiliary's most important program is to honor and aid those who served our country in all the wars, past and present. We ask your assistance during Poppy Days (May 14, 15 & 16) by donating to our members who will be on the street corners in Almont offering poppies.
We pay disabled veterans to hand-make these poppies and then in turn we use 100% of the proceeds from our Poppy campaign to purchase personal items for our hospitalized veterans.
It is sad, but a fact, that our men and women in veterans' facilities have to purchase their own personal products. Many, many of them have no money to do so. If you would visit one of our veterans' homes, you would never forget how our heroes are living now that they are no longer healthy and strong.
Besides personal items, we purchase Christmas gifts and cards for Father's Day, Mother's Day and Valentine's Day. It is unbelievable how many of those in these homes have not heard from friends and family in years. Please help us brighten their days and say "thank you" for their sacrifices.
We thank you in advance for digging deep in your pockets to help us help our veterans.
