On behalf of the Lapeer County Office of Emergency Management, I would like to thank everyone that participated in this year's Mock Disaster Exercise held Sunday, March 29 in Otter Lake.
This year's event simulated a "tornado" striking the Otter Lake campground (among other little "problems" that were created for the responders!) As some of you may remember, Lapeer County did sustain an actual tornado hit in Hadley Township back in August of 2007—so this type of weather phenomenon is VERY possible for our county!
Although it was a gloomy Sunday morning, there were more than 140 dedicated individuals (mostly volunteers) that chose to get up at the crack of dawn and help their communities become even more prepared for a disastrous event! Without their commitment, this would not have been the learning experience it was! The residents of this county should be proud and know that these individuals take their jobs very seriously!
Again, I would like to thank the "heart of our exercise:" Otter Lake Fire Department; Columbiaville Fire Department; Marathon Township Medical First Responders; Lakeville National Honor Society (victims); North Branch National Honor Society (victims); Lapeer County Educational & Technology Center—Public Safety Class (victims); Lapeer County Sheriff's Department; Patriot Ambulance Service; Lapeer County Central Dispatch; Deerfield Township Fire Department; Deerfield Medical First Responders; Lapeer Regional Medical Center; Lapeer County EMS; Lapeer County Amateur Radio Association; Burlington Township Medical First Responders; Lapeer County Health Department; Michigan State Police - Post 38; The Salvation Army; American Red Cross; National Weather Service; Department of Human Services; Michigan Search and Rescue; Boy Scouts— Otisville Troop #254; Otter Lake Elementary School; Greater Lapeer Transit Authority (GLTA); Consignment Club Resale Store; Byers Wrecker Service; Burlington Township Fire and Rescue; Tuscola County Emergency Management (evaluator); Sanilac County Emergency Management. Thank you all again!
