Honoring reading champs


To the Editor:

The March Of Dimes–Port Huron Office is conducting their 33rd Annual Reading Champions fundraiser to coincide with "March Is Reading Month" in St. Clair County elementary schools. The fundraiser is coordinated by March of Dimes Board member and volunteer chairperson, Mrs. Reinette Goldsworthy. The event is. sponsored by E & A Credit Union, and supported by Chuck E. Cheese of Fort Gratiot.

This year's program will involve approximately 1,500 students in grades K-5, from Capac, Avoca, Crull-McKinley, Fair Haven, Garfield, Harrison, Indian Woods, Keewahdin, Lakeport, Roosevelt, Sparlingville, and Thomas Edison schools.

The March of Dimes is proud to have an opportunity to share the March Of Dimes mission, instill a spirit of community service, and promote basic reading skills among hundreds of students in the elementary schools. As a token of appreciation, each student who participates in the program will receive a certificate of achievement, and olympic-style medal.

Funds raised from the event will directly benefit the March of Dimes mission which is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality through programs of community service, advocacy, research and education.
