More than ever, now’s the time to support local economy
To the Editor:
On a recent visit to the Almont area from my new residence on the west side of Michigan, it was commonplace to hear talk about all the difficulties occurring in the United States and especially the metro-Detroit area.
It just seems that everyone is not a happy camper right now. People are depressed about the economy, the weather and everything else under the sun.
It is crucial for our Tri-City area to realize that hope is around the corner. It is also important that we speed up these inevitable positive changes by not looking at how great it was eight years ago, but to foresee how good it will be in our future.
Although the national economy is in a rut, there are even parts of Michigan that continue to thrive. To keep our area strong, prosperous and in good spirits, it is crucial that we go out, have fun and support our local economy. Stop going to Walmart, make your purchases at local shops and help out your neighbor a few blocks down.
Get out of the house on Friday night and visit the Allenton Tavern or the Huddle. There have been numerous statistics on the power of the dollar that goes to local businesses rather than national corporations. These same local businesses pay for ads to keep our newspapers running, sponsor local fundraisers and entertainment and pay taxes that help our community function. But most importantly turn that frown upside down!
