It is a time of great sadness that I write this letter, with the passing of Almont Fire Chief Paul Wilcox. From what I saw and heard over this past week I would like to say how proud I am to live in this community. The way I saw people pull together and lean on each other in this time of sorrow warmed my heart.
Almont may not be well known for many things, but when one of our own has fallen this community has shown over the past week just how much it cares, and that small town America is not a thing of the past.
I came to live in this town over 40 years ago and raised a family with my husband William H. Wallace (retired Almont Firefighter), a 5th generation Almont resident. Not knowing much about small town living I wondered what this town had to offer a city girl like me. In the many years that I have lived here I have seen citizens of Almont take care of their own, but the passing of our Fire Chief really made our community shine brighter than ever, proving to me yet again that the choice my husband and I made all those years ago to stay and raise our family was the right one.
So citizens of Almont hold your heads high and be proud to be part of this great community.
William & Valerie Wallace, proud members of this community, Almont
