A retired soldier pays respects to his nation

Dear Editor,

To my country, America: I owe you so much. I respect you. I love you.

My life has been so rich, so full, because of the doors you left open for me and for all who looked for these same open doors. I am saddened that some judge you differently.

But I was privileged to serve and see you in 11 different nations in my 21 years of military service, and it left me proud.

During my life I have served with and under many cultures and colors of people, and what a great opportunity it was. There were positive learnings in each experience.

My hope is that my children and theirs will have the same open doors if they care to pass through them. I hope they realize how blessed they are to be Americans.

I thank God for the life I could live because of America. I hope He continues to bless her and we continue to seek his blessing.
