Strong support for 3rd Annual Arts Festival

Dear Editor,

The Lapeer Area Sunrise Kiwanis and Lapeer Celebrates the Arts Committee would like to recognize everyone who contributed in making The 3rd Annual Lapeer Celebrates the Arts Festival a memorable event. As the Festival continues to grow, so too does the list of Community partners who need to be thanked.

We are indebted to our event partners, the City of Lapeer Downtown Development Authority and Downtown Business Association, and to the art vendors, Gallery 194 and the Lapeer Art Association who have helped to establish a high-caliber festival.

We are also grateful for the financial support of our booklet sponsors who enable us to continually expand our arts venue for our patrons. They include; Lapeer Regional Medical Center, Mott Community College, Metamora Products Corporation, Vidon Plastics Incorporated, ZF Lemforder Corp., Lapeer County Bank & Trust, Lapeer Chamber of Commerce, Allstate- Michael Beres Agency, Jacob Elite Physical Therapy, Nolan's Farm Equipment, Inc., Citizen's First Bank, Weber Sand & Gravel, Inc., Lapeer County Community Credit Union, Burke's Flowers, Bookshelf, Salon 101, Fun Shots, North Branch Rent-All LLC, Lesley Elizabeth Inc., Lapeer Dental Centre Mgt., Inc., Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Two Voice Publishing, Chatfield School, O.S.C. Inc., Brown & Kent, P.C., McCreedy Farms, Grace Episcopal Church, St. Matthew's Anglican Church, Edward Jones, Wal Mart, K's Auto & Truck Service, Lapeer County Vision Center, Nolin, Oesch, Sieting & Macksoud, P.C., Independent Bank, Ross Automotive, Lee's Auto Repair, Koprowski Veterinary Clinic, American Speedy Printing, Metamora Pines Tree Farm, Sean O'Bryan, Testing Services Group and Meijer. Also making significant contributions to the weekend's festivities were the Lapeer Historical Society, Lapeer County Building & Grounds, City of Lapeer Parks and Recreation and Department of Public Services, Rick Rhein Disposal, the Oddfellows Rebekah Lodge, Brett's Catering, the Lapeer Optimists and LA View.

One of this year's areas of expansion was in the Student Activities Area. This was aided by a number of dedicated volunteers and presenters. They included Michele & Co. Fine Jewelers, Chatfield School, Mike Spradlin, Mark & DeDe Alderman, the Noon Kiwanis Club of Lapeer, McCreedy Farms and many individual family and friends. Additional thanks need to be made to Community Mental Health for presenting a Community Paint Area on Saturday and to the LA View for their donation in that area.

Another new venue this year was the weekend's Video Workshop underwritten by the Lapeer County Community Foundation. Students were instructed on the start to finish process of filming, editing and premiering a feature film. An attentive audience delightfully viewed it in the Historic Courthouse on Sunday afternoon. Much appreciation is given to Wally Green who organized the effort.

Once again, we were fortunate to have had many talented musicians and entertainers donate their time to make this an elaborate, full-scale arts venue. On stage they included; Jak Stout, Subject to Change, Tom Golson, Chris and Eric Eilersen, Jim Albert, Pete Falco, Doug & Bev Larsen, Tifani Vandenberg, Blue Train, Keith Davison, Marc & Dede Alderman, Don Hessel, Mike Ruhl and Steve Prince. On the street we were overwhelmed by the talent of many musicians who dropped in to play, Dragon Karate who performed their martial arts exercises flawlessly and to the Lapeer City Fire Department who brought "Sparky" for all the children to enjoy. We also appreciate the work and performances of the gifted literary artists who shared their love for the written word; Joyce Bonesteel, Carol Pariseau, Ken Germaine, Dolly Arksey, Laird Kellie, Catherine Brakefield, Catherine Alberts, Ric Marion, Jan Curtis, Ron Meyer and Denise Hammerberg.

Finally, our first-ever Street Party, Wine & Beer Tasting was a huge success due in large part to the extraordinary donations of many area restaurants and businesses. Donations and special consideration were given by Will's Winery, Karla Irwin and the County Press, Melanie DiCenzo, El Charrito's, Isola's Bistro, Abruzzo's Piano Grill, Cup Of Joes, E.G. Nick's, Coach's Pizza, Perkin's Yard and Garden, Ross Automotive, K-Mart, Oldani Nursery, Wally Green, Gallery 194, Fenton Home Furnishings, Best Western, Michele & Co., Kan Rock Tire, Lapeer Furniture & Mattress Center, Alyce Smith/ Christian Dior Cosmetics, Past Tense, Rowleys Tires, Lapeer County Bank & Trust and Meijer. Adding to the fun for the evening were our guest celebrity artists, Kevin Daley, Bill Marquardt, Sally Eilersen and Debbie Thompson and their fabulous instructors Debbie Keene and Ruth Ann Mersino. Thank you to all of the Downtown Business Association merchants, especially Gary Dixon who did a wonderful job as our announcer and to those who worked alongside us to help serve the large crowd and add to the festive evening.

We look forward to seeing you at the 4th Annual Lapeer Celebrates the Arts Festival!
