2008 Relay for Life raises $96,000 for cancer research
The 2008 Relay for Life of Lapeer County has come to an end and we at your American Cancer Society thank you for helping make this event a wonderful success. Without the "power of the press," our event would not be nearly as successful. Thank you so much for printing the cancer related stories and the promotion of our Relay for Life of Lapeer County.
This year's event brought in close to 1,000 people at the Eastern Michigan Fairgrounds, 110 of which were honored as cancer survivors. The more than 1,400 luminarias that lined the track were lit at 10 p.m. in honor of all those whohave fought the battle of cancer. As the teams walked in silence, each luminaria brought the real meaning of Relay to "light" once again. At the event, there never seemed to be a dull moment. Whether teams were selling their wares or "Miss"ter Relay participants sharing their talents, everyone was having fun and making a difference in the fight against cancer.
The event was a tremendous success, raising more than $96,000 to aid in the American Cancer Society's ongoing programs of research, education, advocacy and service. Your American Cancer Society would like to say thank you. Thank you for your time, your support and thank you from the bottom of our hearts for making a difference in the lives of so many.
