Bush legacy will linger

Dear Editor,

We are in the middle of a national catastrophe, entering the second half of a leap off a cliff. The Republican party (Bush enablers) as a group have, on one hand impeached a president for having consensual sex and not owning up to it, while giving a pass to a president, who through his lies and deception, cost the lives of over 4,000 and over 26,000 wounded of our finest and beloved young soldiers. This does not include the deaths of more than a million Iraqi men, women and children.

The cost for this duplicity is and continues to be paid for by you and me. Our money is closing in on being worth the equivalent of a peso. Foreclosures are a daily tragedy, and bankruptcies, even with the heartless rule-tightening, are setting new records at 4,000 a day.

During Bush's term as governor of Texas, he refused to commute death sentences to life in prison in 152 out of 153 cases; by far the most punitive of any governor. If the punishment of killing just one person merits the death sentence, then what kind of mercy should Bush and Cheney deserve?

The latest PEW poll indicates a 23-percent approval rating for this administration. Yet there remains serious talk of attacking Iran.

How can 77 percent of the people of this country be against this administration, yet they continue to drag us down into and economic abyss and war.

The Republican ideology of "trickle down" opposes increases of wage or benefits for working people, which historically has led to an economic death spiral.

By crushing the working man with their greed, they are killing the golden goose.
