No public drinking in parks

Dear Editor,

We have a wonderful program of a series of concerts in the summer and movies at the Lamb-Steele Park where families can enjoy an evening on blankets or lawn chairs.

Imlay City Commissioner John Lengemann requested a public hearing at 7:30 p.m. on May 7. The purpose of the hearing is to amend a city ordinance for citizens to be able to consume alcoholic beverages in public. He felt one should be able to have a beer while attending the events.

John Lengemann, being an attorney, should know what can stem from alcohol. I just read in the paper five articles regarding alcohol use. On behalf of some community citizens, we do not agree. Other city parks do not allow drinking. We ask for support at City Hall on Tuesday, May 7 at 7:30 p.m.

Editor's note: For John Lengemann's comments regarding the request, see story on page 2-A.
