Candidates avoiding Social Security issue

Dear Editor,

The Sunday edition of the Detroit News and Free Press did side by side comparisons of the candidates regarding what they determined were the main issues in this election.

Other than the war in Iraq and the recession, I see no issue more important than protecting Social Security. When did gun control become a litmus test or become a urgent problem? There were eleven points to compare, but social security wasn't on there. I smell a rat! I know all the Republican candidates plan on ending Social Security as we know it. My real concern is the murky position taken by the front runners in my own Democratic Party. Hillary is calling for some kind of study group and put everything on the table. Obama is even worse, I can't even pin down anything defining his stance on Social Security.

Joe Biden and Chris Dodd both had good plans to guard Social Security, but were pushed out by the moneyed lobbyists currently running this sham of a primary.

Watch out for the word 'save' when applied to Social Security, it's their way to rob us. Look for a candidate that stresses 'protect' or 'guard' Social Security. If they stand for this, you can trust them to take care of all the rest.
