Lapeer Young Marines to host free camp day

Dear Editor,

The Lapeer County Young Marines are hosting a free day camp this Sat., Jan. 12 for kids to experience what the program is all about.

The first day camp was held in the fall of 2007 and was so well attended that a winter day camp has now been scheduled.

Kids will learn hands-on what the Young Marines program entails, participating in map and compass work, parade and drill maneuvers and a variety of other activities regularly enjoyed by Young Marines.

The day camp will run from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Jan. 12 at the National Guard Armory, 2140 W. Genesee St. (across from Big Lots), Lapeer. Kids need to bring a sack lunch, wear comfortable clothing and bring or wear tennis shoes, a hat and gloves. Those who wish to attend are asked to please RSVP by calling Mr. Butch Hoisington at 810-245-1955.

The Young Marines is a youth education and service program for boys and girls ages 8 through completion of high school. The Young Marines promotes the mental, moral and physical development of its members and focuses on character building, leadership and promoting a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.
