Disaster averted by Senate Republicans

Dear Editor,

On Monday, Dec. 3, Senate Republicans helped avert an economic disaster by repealing the onerous tax. The cap on the surcharge, and its lower rate, will provide some relief to job providers. Under the circumstances, we improved this situation significantly.

I am pleased that Senate Republicans made sure that the fix contained a provision that gave businesses credit for $100 million of the money they have already paid under the new MBT.

In addition, it is our hope that this surcharge ends before the sunset date.

It was because of the Senate Republican leadership's persistence that this issue was addressed. We have made Michigan a more attractive place to do business.
