Take part in camel races

Dear Editor,

We hope everyone will join us for the Family Literacy Center's 8th annual Camel Races on Friday, October 19 at the Lapeer County Center Building in Lapeer.

This fundraiser helps support the programs offered by the Family Literacy Center which include one-to-one tutoring for adults who want to improve their reading or writing or their ability to speak English. The Center also offers workshops for families to help children develop good reading skills.

Tickets to the Family Literacy Center Camel Races are on sale now and are just $15 each or two for $25 and include dinner, dessert, snacks and non-alcoholic beverages. BYOB. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for dinner and seating and the races start at 8 p.m.

Guests will have the opportunity to bet on their favorite wooden camels that are decorated by 24 area businesses. The camels "race" to the toss of the big, fuzzy dice and first to cross the finish line wins. There will be nine races, 50/50 drawings and lots of door prizes awarded.

Please join us and support literacy at this fun fundraiser! Bring friends and family members, but 18 and older, please! Tickets are available at the Family Literacy Center offices located in Mott College in Lapeer. Call 810-664-2737 or write to ican@readlapeer.org.

We hope to see you at the races!
