We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the students at Almont High School and the whole community who made Homecoming week so wonderful for our son Joey and his good friend Janelle.
It was a very happy and emotional time for our families. Most of the students in Almont will most likely go on to college, pursue careers, get married, and have children....things Joey and Janelle may never do (but don't count them out!). And in the big scheme of things, with a war going on and all of the turmoil in our world, a homecoming, of course, doesn't compare. But for two special needs kids, becoming homecoming king and queen was probably the most exciting thing that will ever happen to them.
We truly appreciate the unselfish spirit from their fellow students. It is well known that it is every girl's dream to be Homecoming Queen, and for all those girls to give that up for our kids.....well, words just aren't sufficient.
Nineteen years ago when Joey was born, our biggest fear was that he would be teased and laughed at, but that has never happened. We have been so blessed that Joe has always been included and supported by his fellow students—a really positive testament to the caliber of young people in our school.
And also to the community as a whole—you have always been so supportive and caring. Thank you, thank you to each and every one of you!!! We are so proud to be part of such a special, caring community.
