The Family Literacy Center is thrilled to announce that it has been awarded a $9,900 grant from the Verizon Foundat-ion. John VanWyck, Director of External Affairs for Verizon, has worked to support our local literacy organization for more than eight years. This grant will be used to train key volunteers and staff and to improve technology access for tutors and students.
Due to support of businesses like Verizon, the Center has already served 296 adult literacy students in 2007. That is more students than it served in any one year period in our 27 year history!
The Center offers free one-to-one tutoring for adults and skill-building workshops for parents and families.
The Center is deeply grateful for the consistent and long-term support of the Verizon Foundation.
If you have any questions about the Family Literacy Center, becoming a student or becoming a volunteer tutor, please call 810-664-2737.
