Streber golf outing lands on the green

Dear Editor,

The Annual Nancy Ann Streber Memorial Golf Classic to benefit Visiting Nurse Services of Michigan Hospice was held on Sat., May 12 at the Heather Hills Golf Club in Romeo, Michigan. This year's outing also included a special dedication to Pat O'Brien of Almont, a dear friend who passed away this year.

In 1998, Dave Streber of Almont founded the Nancy Ann Streber Memorial Golf Classic in honor of his mother, who passed away suddenly on Mother's Day, 1997. Dave chose Visiting Nurse Services of Michigan to receive monies raised each year because of his family's experience with Visiting Nurse Services of Michigan Hospice when his maternal grandfather was dying of cancer.

In total, more than $40,000 has been raised and donated to Visiting Nurse Services of Michigan Hospice. Because no one is refused care due to the inability to pay, all monies raised have and will continue to benefit patients and their families.

Visiting Nurse Services of Michigan's Brian's House Hospice, a 12 bed hospice unit in Davison, offers specialized care to improve the quality of life for terminally ill patients and to enhance time they spend with family. Brian's Houses are located in Davison and in Bay City. Both facilities have beautifully furnished rooms with the look and feel of a comfortable home, private bedrooms, living room and other comfortable areas for patients and their families. The goal of Brian's House is to support the patient and their loved ones when the patient's needs can no longer be met at home.

The proceeds from this year's Memorial Golf Classic will be used to enhance the kitchen in the Davison Brian's House.

We of Michigan Hospice are honored to be associated with the Streber family. Without good friends like the Strebers, private donations and community-minded businesses, we would not be able to continue to bring care, comfort, and compassion to families who are facing this most difficult time.

The Strebers would like to extend a special thank you to Brooke, Breeanna, Tami Streber, Paul Streber, Anne, Pat Porter, Jenny Bales, Ashley Pinkston, Chuck Mack, Steve Streber, Alyssa Krenzer, Claire Turvill, Hilary Rayl and the Heather Hills Staff.

First place went to the team of Bob and Beth Klein and Deane and Jerry Mauser.
