Lapeer made art festival memorable

Dear Editor,

The Lapeer Area Sunrise Kiwanis and Lapeer Cele-brates Art Committee would like to thank everyone who helped to make The Lapeer Celebrates Art Festival a memorable and successful event. It truly has become a community effort and it is difficult to thank everyone who has had a part in it.

We begin to try to recognize all by thanking Gallery 194, the Lapeer Art Assoc-iation and the artists who have helped us to establish a high-caliber festival. We are also indebted to the talented musicians, entertainers and literary artists who contribute a pleasing and unique element that many other shows do not enjoy. These artists include D-Flat (formerly Opus 11), Neighbors, Chris and Eric Eilersen, Jak Stout, Subject to Change, Tom Golson, Steve Prince, Blue Train, Mariah Wallace, Dragon Karate, R&R Double Take, William Wallace Green, Joyce Bonesteel, Carol Pariseau, Ken Germaine, Pete McCreedy, Chris Dungey, Lois Sprengneither Keel, Catherine Brakefield, Catherine Alberts, Ric Marion, Jan Curtis and Stacey Town.

The Children's Perform-ing Arts and "Make and Take" areas are also another feature of the festival that requires many hours of preparation and volunteerism. For these, we appreciate the efforts of the Chatfield School, Gallery 194, Sally Eilersen and the Noon Kiwanis Club of Lapeer (our parent club). Many thanks also to the Lapeer Fire Department for bringing "Sparky" to life and entertaining the children on Nepessing Street.

We would also like to recognize the significant contribution that the Lapeer Historical Society and Lapeer County Parks and Recreation donate by providing tours and the use of the Historic Courthouse. Denise Becker and the Lapeer Farmer's Market, the Oddfellows Rebekah Lodge, Brett's Catering and St. Matthew's Anglican Church made additional contributions of effort and time.

Our Gala Event was also a hit because of the extraordinary donations of many artists and area businesses and our special "guest" artists, John McMurray, Carl Coffey, Byron Konshuh and Tony Monteleone.

With appreciation, we recognize the exceptional "coaching" of artists Debbie Keene, Ruth Ann Mersino and Mike Monville, our guest auctioneer, Brian Rowley, the savory buffet of Lenny Miller's and the amazing talent of the Gala entertainers, the Lapeer East Jazz Band.

Finally, we are especially grateful for the help we received throughout the weekend from the Lapeer West Key Club, the financial support provided by our festival booklet sponsors and our event partners; the Lapeer Downtown Development Authority, the Lapeer Down-town Business Association and Genesys Health Systems, and for the community support from the patrons who endured the heat on Saturday and the rain on Sunday to close the weekend on a positive note.

We'll see you next year!
