Accused abuser must be treated as criminal

Dear Editor,

Wow, you do raise some mighty tough ones up there. A 4-H queen, a veterinary student and no heart, no compassion for animals! She actually let them starve. My goodness, I bet her parents are really proud of her!

The court should order her as they do drunk drivers—no contact with animals, not even a parakeet! She obviously has a mental problem of some sort and who knows how many times these are transferable from animal to human and she could do some real damage in the future if turned loose. Perhaps a study in an institution by a psychiatrist would help understand why a woman, a girl, would do something like torturing animals. Surely she has a mental problem and should not be running around loose in a small community ike Imlay City.

Editor's note: Mark and Ellen Mills and their adult children Kate, 20, and Andrew, 18, have been charged with animal killing and torture and animal neglect, having an unlicensed dog and failure to bury dead animals. A preliminary examination to determine whether any or all of them will face trial on those charges is ongoing. As of this date, they have not been bound over for trial.
