Many adult students at the Family Literacy Center are currently waiting for volunteer tutors to help them improve their reading, writing or English-speaking skills. Can you help? We believe you can and will show you how you can make a difference!
Approximately one in four adults in the United States has limited literacy skills. Help is available for these adults here in Lapeer County. Tutoring occurs in public places. Hours are flexible. You meet with your student for one to two hours each week. A free, exciting training will be offered on over four evenings beginning on May 15.
If you have thought about becoming a volunteer tutor, please call the Family Literacy Center at 810-664-2737 to sign up for an orientation or to find out more. Orientations are planned for Friday, May 11 at 2 p.m. or Monday, May 14 at 6 p.m. No teaching experience is required.
The Family Literacy Center and the Lapeer District Library are partners for literacy in Lapeer County.
