Almont falls just short to Marlette

ALMONT — The Almont varsity boys' basketball team now stands at 2-2 overall following a narrow 49-47 setback to visiting Marlette in a non-conference battle on Tuesday, December 21.

In Tuesday's contest, Marlette grabbed a 12-8 edge after one quarter was complete.

The second quarter saw Almont collect 19 points and Marlette manage 11.

That made it 27-23, Almont, at the halftime break.

When the action resumed, Marlette bounced back with a 15-5 third quarter edge.

That staked Marlette to a 38-32 advantage at the 24-minute mark.

Almont then put together a 15-11 fourth quarter rally, only to fall by a 49-47 count when the last second ticked off the clock.

For Almont, Aaron May led the way with 16 points. May hit two trifectas en route.

Cody Gelinski (10 points) gave Almont a double figure output as well. The remaining Raider points went to Paul Boughner (nine, with three triples), Brent Gibbs (a trey), Andrew McNally (three) along with Nick Grundner, Aaron Benton and John Finn (two apiece).

Almont also received 10 rebounds courtesy of Gelinski.
