IMLAY CITY — The Imlay City wrestling team posted a 5-0 mark en route to a first-place finish last Saturday at the Capac Invitational.
Imlay City opened their five-match stint with a 40-36 win against DeLaSalle. That was followed by a 42-28 victory over West Bloomfield; a 49-30 triumph against North Branch; a 56-24 win over Flint Kearsley; and a 45-30 victory against Capac.
Drew Pawlaczyk (130), Kyle Guerrero (135), Sam Lyscas (140), Jake Scillian (145) and Nick Nivison (160) led Imlay City with 5-0 marks that day.
Ray Murawski (125), Jake Newton (152) and William Podeski (215) gave Imlay City unbeaten marks as well. Each finished at 2-0.
Rojelio Oliva (285) notched the next best Imlay City winning percentage that day. He wound up with a 4-1 record.
Garrett Toombs (103) added a 3-2 mark to Imlay City's cause.
With the results, Imlay City now stands at 7-0 overall.
Imlay City returns to action this Wednesday when it hosts a quad. There they are scheduled to face Lapeer East and New Lothrop. That action is slated to get underway at 6 p.m.
Capac notches third place at its own invitational
CAPAC — The Capac wrestling team went 3-2 to lock up a third-place showing last Saturday at an invitational it hosted.
Capac began their five-match tournament stint with a 57-24 rout of Flint Kearsley. That was followed by a 54-24 win over North Branch; a 45-30 victory against DeLaSalle; a 38-36 loss to West Bloomfield; and a 45-30 setback to Imlay City.
Mykle Dedenbach (112) and Thomas Bolday (189) paced Capac with 5-0 records that day.
Dustin Hunsucker (103) and Dan Cornish (152) provided Capac with 4-1 mat showings.
Derik Hulwick (130), Matt Schuman (135), Devon Rosseau (140) and Josh Tucker (160) tacked on 3-2 records to Capac's cause.
With the outcomes, Capac now stands at 4-3 overall.
Capac returns to action this Wednesday when they travel to Imlay City. There they will square off versus New Lothrop and Lapeer East. The action begins at 6 p.m.
