Kick of holidays in Imlay City
November 17, 2010
On October 30 we held our annual Merchant Trick or Treat in Imlay City. We had many area businesses participate passing out treats to many children. We estimate it was our best year ever with about 1,200 to 1,500 trick or treaters going throughout Imlay City to get some treats. Extreme Dance kicked off the event with a great performance of "If I Only Had A Brain." Many businesses signed up to compete in the decorating and costume contests again this year. Last year the decorating contest was won by Viscount Pools, Spas & Billiards. The competition was very tough this year, but CSB Bank took the title. Everything from the lighting, sounds, decorations and coordinating costumes made them stand out this year and win. Trendsetters Salon 'witches' took the prize for best costumes this year. Thank you to all of the participating businesses, trick or treaters, and Extreme Dance Studio for making this year a great event for all. A special thank you to my judges Monica Irelan and Kathy Rommety for taking the time out to judge the participating businesses.
As some for you may have read I have been working with the City Manager, Wayne O'Neal and DDA Director Monica Irelan on economic development in Imlay City to attract and retain businesses here in Imlay City. On Tuesday we had our first town hall meeting to roll out our plans and introduce two new team members, Paul LaFontaine with Imlay City Ford Lincoln Mercury and Kristen Valyi-Hax with the Ruth Hughes Memorial Library. We are working on attracting not only new businesses to the area but also to help area businesses with their plans to expand. We are encouraging people in the community to help us by sharing their thoughts and ideas and/or signing up to help on a sub-committee. If you are interested in helping out or receiving more information, please contact the chamber office.
It is hard to believe that Thanksgiving is only a week away and many have already started their holiday shopping. Now is a great time to visit local merchants to find that special gift and help support the local economy. There are many great gifts you can find right here in Imlay City. We are selling "Chamber Bucks" again this year to give as a gift and support the local merchants. The "Chamber Bucks" are gift checks that can be redeemed at participating Imlay City Area Chamber of Commerce establishments. They are available in any denomination and can be purchased through the Chamber office Mon., Tues., Wed. or Thurs., from 9 a.m. to noon, or by appointment. The Imlay City Area Chamber of Commerce "Chamber Bucks" promotions' objective is to keep our 'bucks' in the Imlay City Area.
The promotions committee has been busy planning the holiday events for this year. We have decided to change our Christmas Parade to a new time. This year we will host our parade in downtown Imlay City on Saturday, December 11 at noon. Santa will lead the parade and then be on hand after at the Historical Museum for pictures. Imlay City merchants will also be having their customer appreciation day with special sales and refreshments in the stores. Make sure you see what they have to offer.
