Capac gives Imlay City a setback


Cancer benefit brings rivals together on court

TRI-CITY AREA — Capac made host Imlay City absorb a 25-22, 23-25, 25-23, 25-12 loss in a Blue Water Area Conference varsity volleyball matchup on Tuesday, September 21.

Nicole Gilbert, Taylor Miller and Samantha Smith led Capac with six ace serves apiece. The Chiefs also received two aces courtesy of Taylor Venzuch.

Jennica Polzin and Gilbert posted the top Capac hitting credentials, accumulating eight kills. They were backed by Smith (five kills), Jill Lauwers (four), Kelsey Tosch (three) plus Abby Aguinaga and Venzuch (two each).

Aguinaga notched the highest Capac dig output, registering 41. Their remaining digs went to Alicia Blackstock (17), Gilbert (15), Lauwers and Polzin (10 apiece), Shelby Reagan and Venzuch (three each), Shawn McMann (two) and Smith (one).

Tosch and Smith (two apiece) along with Lauwers (one) contributed Capac's solo blocks.

Iris Uribe collected 11 service points and Jessica Medaugh supplied nine to lead Imlay City. Bailey Schaller and Alivia Hibbler (five points each), Kelly Pollard (four) and Ashley Dockham (two) followed.

Schaller handled the bulk of Imlay City's playmaking responsibilities. She wound up with 24 assists.

Autumn Chambers posted the top Imlay City kill total, generating 13. Jennifer Jerzewski and Uribe (four kills apiece) along with Emily Job and Dockham (three each) supported their performance.

Pollard paced Imlay City as far as digs were concerned, amassing 16. The Spartans also received digs courtesy of Medaugh (nine), Schaller (five), Job (four), Dockham, Chambers and Hibbler (three apiece), Jerzewski (two) and Uribe (one).

Kelli Brandt (two) and Uribe (one) added Imlay City's solo blocks.
