Capac beats Almont for the very first time

Chiefs pull off surprising 2-1 upset over BWAC contender

September 29, 2010
TRI-CITY AREA — Capac accomplished what few around thought they could, earning a surprising 2-1 win at visiting Almont's expense in a Blue Water Area Conference varsity boys' soccer battle last Wednesday afternoon.

The outcome marked the first time since Capac began its soccer program during the 2007 campaign that they were able to best Almont.

With the decision, Capac improves to 4-6 and 3-5. Almont drops to 7-4 and 5-3.

In Wednesday's battle, Capac and Almont concluded the opening half with one goal apiece.

It was there Capac struck first when Sergio Zuniga capitalized on a pinpoint pass from Trevor Tullio.

Later in the half, Almont's Forestt LaFave booted the ball past the outstretched arms of Capac goalie to make it a 1-1 contest. Kyle McNeil drew the assist there.

Following the halftime break, Capac regained the lead at 2-1 when Kyle Roosen converted a rebound in front of Almont's net.

Roosen's tally would prove the game-winner as neither side would score again.

Manuel Morales had a busy afternoon in net as Capac's goalkeeper. Morales was credited with a 28-save outing.

Almont went with two different goalies over the course of the BWAC nailbiter. Trevor Owen worked the first half and had four saves and Wes Hall played half number two where he managed five saves.
