Almont wins Brown City Invite

TRI-CITY AREA — Dylan Creger logged a pacesetting time of 17:06 and David Burkland registered a 19:25 clocking for 10th, leading the Almont boys' cross country squad to a first-place finish last Wednesday at the Brown City Invitational.

Almont took team honors on the strength of a 54-point total. Carsonville-Port Sanilac (61 points), Marlette (95), Brown City (98), Lapeer East (112), Imlay City (135), Ubly (146) and Capac (213) followed.

Lakers, North Branch, Sandusky and Bad Axe also sent runners to the starting-line but did not field complete squads.

Josh Klebba, 11th, 19:25; turned in the next quickest Almont time that day. He was backed by James Strachan, 16th, 19:58; and Josh Kunath, 23rd, 20:33.

Troy Harbin, 15th, 19:50; paced Imlay City. The Spartans also counted results from Jake Lopiccolo, 34th, 21:08; Matt Van Dyk, 35th, 21:10; Josue Leon, 36th, 21:12; and Tyler Walla, 37th, 21:16.

Joe Cutino, 42nd, 21:37; led Capac that day. He was backed by A.J. Misch, 46th, 22:07; Ryan Najor, 52nd, 22:55; Wesley Diener, 53rd, 23:17; and Austin McDunnah, 54th, 23:23.

Kevin Kissane has been covering high school sports for the Tri-City Times since 1985. When not standing on a field or court with his camera and notepad, he enjoys golf, travel and family.
