Tri-City Times names top girls' track talent for the 2010 year

TRI-CITY AREA — From the opening meet to the last, these athletes made a name for themselves for their respective performances whether it be in running or field events.

Here is a look at who landed an appearance on the 2010 edition of the Tri-City Times All-Area girls' track squad and the accomplishments they managed along the way:

Name: Amanda Bryant

School: Capac

Year: Sophomore

Event: High jump

Best effort: Bryant cleared 4 feet 9 inches en route to a second during a 72-62 loss to visiting Blue Water Area Conference counterpart Richmond on Tuesday, April 20.

Top finishes: She joined forces with Sarah Spencer for a high jump relay third at the Kearsley Early Bird Relays; teamed up Sarah Spencer and Mallory Nason for a high jump relay third at The 31st Annual Tri-City Times/CSB Bank Capac Relays; and joined forces with Mallory Nason, Sean O'Brien and Brian Kulman for a fourth at the Almont Coed Relays.

Name: Jennica Polzin

School: Capac

Year: Junior

Event: Pole vault

Best effort: Polzin posted a school record-setting performance of 9 feet 3 inches for third at the Caro High School-based Thumb Meet of Champions on Tuesday, June 1.

Top finishes: She supplied a first at the Kearsley Early Bird Relays and Almont High School-based Blue Water Area Conference Meet; joined forces with Jade Detroyer, Tyler Sawicki and Brian Kulman for a pole vault relay number one showing at the Almont Coed Relays; obtained seconds at the Unionville Sebewaing Area Invitational and at a Division 3 regional hosted by Vassar High School; generated a third at the Caro High School- based Thumb Meet of Champions; teamed up with Brandi Peyerk and Jade Detroyer for a pole vault relay fourth at The 31st Annual Tri-City Times/CSB Bank Capac Relays; plus added a fifth at the Hatchet Invitational in Bad Axe.

Other credentials: Polzin also qualified for the event at the Blue Water Meet of Champions hosted by Marysville High School and the Comstock Park High School-based Division 3 state track and field finals.

Name: Stephanie Francis

School: Imlay City

Year: Sophomore

Event: Pole vault

Best effort: Francis cleared 9 feet on the way to a second Tuesday, May 25 at the Blue Water Area Conference League Meet hosted by Almont High School.

Top finishes: She took first at the Byron Invitational; teamed up with Alex Diplock and Jessica Carr to win the pole vault relay at The 31st Annual Tri-City Times/CSB Bank Capac Relays; obtained an outright second at the Almont High School-based Blue Water Area Conference Meet; wound up with a two-way tie for a second at the Lapeer County Meet hosted by North Branch High School; joined forces with Aimee Newsom, Branden Diplock and Kevin Shene for a pole vault relay second at the Almont Coed Relays; plus furnished a two-way tie for seventh at an Algonac High School-based Division 2 regional.

Other credentials: Francis also earned the right to compete in the event at the Marysville High School-based Blue Water Meet of Champions and the Thumb Meet of Champions hosted by Caro High School.

Name: Caley Campbell

School: Imlay City

Year: Senior

Event: Long jump

Best effort: Campbell went 14 feet 5 inches for seventh during a Division 2 regional hosted by Algonac High School on Friday, May 21.

Top finishes: She teamed up with Jennifer Jerzewski, A.J. Caldwell and Matt Van Dyk for a long jump relay first at the Almont Coed Relays; registered a sixth at the Blue Water Area Conference League Meet hosted by Almont High School; joined forces with Courtney Martin and Jennifer Jerzewski for a seventh at The 31st Annual Tri-City Times/CSB Bank Capac Relays; plus tacked on a seventh at the Division 2 regional hosted by Algonac High School.

Name: Millie Velez

School: Imlay City

Year: Senior

Event: Shot put

Best effort: Velez uncorked a toss measuring 29 feet 5 inches en route to a first in Imlay City's 82.5-54.5 victory over visiting Almont on Thursday, May 6.

Top finishes: She combined with Kelly Carland, William Guldi and Matt Fradl for a shot put relay first at the Almont Coed Relays; garnered a second at the Lapeer County Meet hosted by North Branch High School; joined forces with Kelly Carland and Gabby Webb for a shot put relay fourth at The 31st Annual Tri-City Times/CSB Bank Capac Relays; provided a sixth at the Almont High School-based Blue Water Area Conference League Meet; and added an eighth at the Byron Invitational.

Other credentials: Velez also earned the right to compete in the event at the Blue Water Area Meet of Champions hosted by Marysville High School.

Name: Millie Velez

School: Imlay City

Year: Senior

Event: Discus

Best effort: Velez managed a throw covering 96 feet 2 inches of territory on the way to a fifth Friday, May 21 at a Division 2 regional hosted by Algonac High School.

Top finishes: She collected a first at the Byron Invitational; obtained a third at the North Branch High School-based Lapeer County Meet; teamed up with Gabby Webb, Robert Huff and Matt Chrzanowski for a fourth at the Almont Coed Relays; joined forces with Eleanor Walker and Gabby Webb for a fifth at The 31st Annual Tri-City Times/CSB Bank Capac Relays; wound up fifth at a Division 2 regional hosted by Algonac High School; and tacked on a sixth at the Almont High School-based Blue Water Area Conference League Meet.

Name: Nina Dalecki

School: Capac

Year: Senior

Event: Discus

Best effort: Dalecki uncorked a toss measuring 95 feet 6 inches, paving the way to an eighth-place finish Saturday, May 22 at a Division 3 regional hosted by Vassar High School.

Top finishes: She combined with Katelyn Parent for a discus relay second at the Kearsley Early Bird Relays; teamed up with Katelyn Parent, Ryan Carter and Pat White for a discus relay second at the Almont Coed Relays; supplied a fourth at the Almont High School-based Blue Water Area Conference League Meet; registered a fifth at the Hatchet Invitational in Bad Axe; joined forces with Ashley Brown and Katelyn Parent for a discus relay sixth at The 31st Annual Tri-City Times/CSB Bank Capac Relays; plus furnished an eighth at a Division 3 regional hosted by Vassar High School.

Other credentials: Dalecki also earned the right to compete in the event at the Marysville High School-based Blue Water Area Meet of Champions.

Name: Jennica Polzin

School: Capac

Year: Junior

Event: 100-meter dash

Best effort: Polzin raced to a time of 13.29 seconds en route to a first in Capac's 72-62 loss to visiting Blue Water Area Conference adversary Richmond on Tuesday, April 20.

Top finishes: She generated a first at the Bad Axe High School-based Hatchet Invitational; pulled up second at the Unionville Sebewaing Area Invitational; and added a fifth at a Division 3 regional hosted by Vassar High School.

Other credentials: Polzin also earned the right to compete in the event at the Marysville High School-based Blue Water Area Meet of Champions and Thumb Meet of Champions hosted by Caro High School.

Name: Michelle Marcial

School: Imlay City

Year: Junior

Event: 100-meter hurdles

Best effort: Marcial stopped the watch at 16.9 seconds, good enough for third place, while competing at the Almont High School-based Blue Water Area Conference League Meet on Tuesday, May 25.

Top finishes: She registered seconds at the Lapeer County Meet hosted by North Branch High School and Byron Invitational; joined forces with Stephanie Francis, E.J. Webster and Branden Diplock for a shuttle hurdle relay second at the Almont Coed Relays; teamed up with Ericka Dixon, Jessica Carr and Stephanie Francis for a shuttle hurdle relay second at the 31st Annual Tri-City Times/CSB Bank Capac Relays; plus provided a third at the Almont High School-based Blue Water Area Conference League Meet.

Name: Ally Matthews

School: Almont

Year: Junior

Event:200-meter dash

Best effort: Matthews raced to a clocking of 28.3 seconds during a prelimary heat at a Division 2 regional hosted by Algonac High School on Friday, May 21.

Top finishes: She pulled up second at the Lapeer County Meet hosted by North Branch High School.

Name: Michell Marcial

School: Imlay City

Year: Junior

Event: 300-meter hurdles

Best effort: Marcial was timed in 49.6 seconds for third Tuesday, May 25 at the Almont High School-based Blue Water Area Conference League Meet.

Top finishes: She generated seconds at the Lapeer County Meet hosted by North Branch High School and the Byron Invitational; registered a third at the Almont High School-based Blue Water Area Conference League Meet; and added an eighth at a Division 2 regional hosted by Algonac High School.

Other credentials: Marcial also earned the right to compete in the event at the Marysville High School-based Blue Water Area Meet of Champions.

Name: Lauren Deneweth

School: Almont

Year: Senior

Event: 400-meter dash

Best effort: Deneweth logged a clocking of 1:06.1 for first in an 82.5-54.5 road loss to Blue Water Area Conference rival Imlay City on Thursday, May 6.

Top finishes: She supplied a fourth at the Byron Invitational.

Name: Lauren Deneweth

School: Almont

Year: Senior

Event: 800-meter run

Best effort: Deneweth notched a clocking of 2:27.5 for third at a Division 2 regional hosted by Algonac High School on Friday, May 21.

Top finishes: She obtained seconds at the North Branch High School-based Lapeer County Meet and Byron Invitational; plus added thirds at a Division 2 regional hosted by Algonac High School and the Almont High School-based Blue Water Area Conference League Meet.

Other credentials: Deneweth also earned the right to compete in the event at the Blue Water Area Conference Meet of Champions hosted by Marysville High School.

Name: Lauren Deneweth

School: Almont

Year: Senior

Event: 1600-meter run

Best effort: Deneweth furnished a time of 5:40.27 en route to a third Tuesday, May 25 at the Almont High School-based Blue Water Area Conference League Meet.

Top finishes: She collected thirds at the North Branch High School-based Lapeer County Meet and the Blue Water Area Conference League Meet hosted by Almont High School.

Name: Kayla Worley

School: Dryden

Year: Freshman

Event: 3200-meter run

Best effort: Worley stopped the watch with a school record-setting clocking of 12:52.19 for first at the North Central Thumb League Meet hosted by Carsonville-Port Sanilac High School on Tuesday, May 18.

Top finishes: She earned the distinction of race pacesetter at the Dryden Invitational, Kingston Invitational, Akron-Fairgrove Invitational and North Central Thumb League Meet hosted by Carsonville-Port Sanilac; claimed seconds at the North Branch High School-based Lapeer County Meet and Carsonville-Port Sanilac Invitational; pulled up fourth at a Deckerville High School-based Division 4 regional; plus furnished a sixth at the North Huron Invitational.

Team: Andrea Gould, Caley Campbell, Taelor Webb and Michelle Marcial.

School: Imlay City

Years: Junior, senior, senior and junior.

Event: 400-meter relay

Best effort: An Imlay City lineup consisting of Andrea Gould, Caley Campbell, Taelor Webb and Michelle Marcial took third with a clocking 53.54 seconds Tuesday, May 25 at the Almont High School-based Blue Water Area Conference League Meet.

Top finishes: Imlay City's quartet of Kenzio Melendez, Caley Campbell, Michelle Marcial raced to a first at the Lapeer County Meet hosted by North Branch High School; an Imlay City team of Cassie Durfee, Caley Campbell, Nick Reis and A.J. Caldwell set the pace at the Almont Coed Relays; an Imlay City quartet of Caley Campbell, Cassie Durfee, Michelle Marcial and Andrea Gould claimed a second at The 31st Annual Tri-City Times/CSB Bank Capac Relays; an Imlay City team of Andrea Gould, Caley Campbell, Taelor Webb and Michelle Marcial supplied a third at the Almont High School-based Blue Water Area Conference League Meet; an Imlay City lineup brought home a fourth from the Byron Invitational; and an Imlay City team consisting of Taelor Webb, Caley Campbell, Michelle Marcial and Andrea Gould contributed a fifth at a Division 2 regional hosted by Algonac High School.

Top finishes: An Almont lineup including Kayla Johnson, Scotti Langley, Aaron Born and Eric Ambrosiewicz took second at the Almont Coed Relays; an Almont quartet of Ally Matthews, Lauren Deneweth, Heather Kunath and Scotti Langley placed second at the Lapeer County Meet hosted by North Branch High School; an Almont lineup of Ally Matthews, Kayla Johnson, Scotti Langley and Lauren Deneweth pulled up third at the Almont High School-based Blue Water Area Conference League Meet; an Almont quartet of Ally Matthews, Kayla Johnson, Scotti Langley and Lauren Deneweth registered a fourth at the Byron Invitational; an Almont team of Lauren Deneweth, Ally Matthews, Scotti Langley and Kayla Johnson supplied a fifth at the 31st Annual Tri-City Times/CSB Bank Capac Relays; plus an Almont quartet of Scotti Langley, Kayla Johnson, Ally Matthews and Lauren Deneweth generated an eighth at an Algonac High School-based Division 2 regional.

Top finishes: An Almont quartet of Kayla Johnson, Lauren Deneweth, Heather Kunath and Scotti Langley pulled up first at the Lapeer County Meet hosted by North Branch High School; an Almont team consisting of Lauren Deneweth, Scotti Langley, Kyle Robinson and Josh Klebba wound up first at the Almont Coed Relays; an Almont quartet of Ally Matthews, Kayla Johnson, Scotti Langley and Lauren Deneweth set the pace at the Byron Invitational; an Almont team consisting of Alyssa Leach, Kayla Johnson, Scotti Langley and Lauren Deneweth collected a first at the Almont High School-based Blue Water Area Conference League Meet; and an Almont quartet of Kayla Johnson, Scotti Langley, Ally Matthews and Lauren Deneweth managed a fourth at a Division 2 regional hosted by Algonac High School.

Coach of the Year- Jim Reinke, who directed Imlay City to a first at the Almont Coed Relays; thirds at the Lapeer County Meet and 31st Annual Tri-City Times/CSB Bank Capac Relays; and a fourth at the Blue Water Area Conference League Meet; earns Tri-City Times All-Area Coach of the Year accolades.

Kevin is a 1980 graduate of Capac High School, and is also a grad of St. Clair Community College and earned a degree in journalism from Central Michigan University.
