June 23, 2010 ALMONT TWP. — Van Dyke Rd. (M-53) at Hollow Corners will re-open to traffic this weekend—as early as midnight on Saturday (June 26).
Michigan Department of Transportation engineer Armando Lopez Jr. said that asphalt was being laid on Friday afternoon. Crews will work through the night to paint new lines and erect new signs as well, Lopez said.
The thoroughfare has been closed to traffic between Dryden Road and I-69 since last Wednesday, June 16, to replace a box culvert that collapsed in August following heavy rains that caused the Belle River to swell.
Engineers created a very "aggressive" project schedule, saying they hoped to complete the work in ten days.
