TRI-CITY AREA — Almont's Pat Russell and Erik O'Connor along with Imlay City's Ethan Walker and Dryden's Cody Paupert will suit up for the North squad versus the South in the First Annual Southeast Michigan High School All-Star Baseball Game slated for this Thursday at Port Huron's Sanborn Park.

A welcome and introduction ceremony will begin at 6 p.m., with the game getting underway at 7 p.m. Proceeds raised will be donated to the St. Clair County Community College men's baseball team.

Rusty Fournier, a Port Huron All-State agent, and Denny Dwyer, head coach for the St. Clair County Community College baseball team, are the organizers of the contest. The North squad is coached by Yale's Brian Fowler and the South squad is coached by Port Huron High's Adam Hoskins. High school seniors from throughout southeast Michigan were nominated by their coaches and 25 players were selected for each team. Players will received a souvenir jersey and game program.

Fournier, a baseball enthusiast and former assistant coach at Port Huron Northern High School during the time Denny Dwyer served as head coach, developed the idea of an All-Star game to give area players more attention. "I wanted to do something for the players in southeast Michigan to give them recognition and make this a showcase event for the top high school players in our region," Fournier said.

Fournier expects to make this an annual event that will attract college coaches from all over the state interested in recruiting talented players.
