Capac, Imlay City grab ten total spots on team

TRI-CITY AREA — From the opening pitch to the last, these players set themselves apart from the rest.

Here is a look at who earned a spot on the Tri-City Times All-Area softball lineup and the numbers they put up along the way:

Name: Erin Combs

School: Imlay City

Year: Freshman

Years on varsity: One

Position: Pitcher

Throws: Righthanded

Record: Combs put together a 17-9 record, with a 1.1 ERA, during the 2010 campaign.

In 166 innings, Combs allowed 100 hits, issued 38 walks and struck out 232.

Batting average: She ranked fourth on the Imlay City ballclub and 11th out of those who attained Tri-City Times All-Area first team status with a .286 average.

Combs collected 20 singles, four doubles and two triples among 91 at bats.

She also notched a .330 on-base percentage, drew her squad's highest walk total (eight), supplied her team's third best RBI output (23) and amassed her squad's 10th highest run total (three).

Postseason honors: Combs wrapped up her debut campaign on Imlay City's varsity as an All-Blue Water Area Conference first team choice.

Name: Ashley Mousseau

School: Capac

Year: Senior

Years on varsity:

Position: Pitcher/first base

Throws: Righthanded

Record: Mousseau posted an 11-7 mark this spring.

In 118 innings of work, Mousseau established a school single season record for strikeouts with 136, gave up 62 hits and issued 22 walks.

She also set a school career strikeout record with 336.

Batting average: Mousseau supplied a .277 average, thanks to 20 singles and six doubles among 108 at bats. Her level of plate proficiency was sixth best on the Capac ballclub and 12th out of those who attained Tri-City Times All-Area first team status.

She also furnished her team's fifth highest RBI (23) and and run (19) outputs, plus accumulated her squad's 10th highest walk output (five).

Postseason honors: Mousseau concluded her fourth season on Capac's varsity as an All-Blue Water Area Conference first team selection.

Name: Kelsey Tosch

School: Capac

Year: Junior

Years on varsity: Two

Position: Pitcher

Throws: Righthanded

Record: Tosch put together a 10-6 record during the 2010 campaign.

In 81 innings, Tosch struck out 67, allowed 60 hits and issued 19 walks.

Batting average: She ranked second on the Capac ballclub and sixth out of those who attained Tri-City Times All-Area first team status with a .357 average.

Tosch amassed 30 hits, including a pair of over the fence homers, among 84 at bats.

She also contributed 35 RBI, a school record, to Capac's cause.

Name: Natalie Maynard

School: Dryden

Year: Senior

Years on varsity: Four

Position: Pitcher

Throws: Righthanded

Record: Maynard won six games, with a 4.72 ERA, for Dryden this season.

In 158 innings, Maynard struck out 165 batters.

Batting average: She ranked first on the Dryden ballclub and second out of those who attained Tri-City Times All-Area first team status with a .506 average.

Maynard collected 23 singles, 10 doubles, five triples and two homers among 79 at bats.

She also furnished a .544 on-base percentage plus posted her squad's highest RBI output (43).

Postseason honors: Maynard wrapped up her fourth campaign on Dryden's varsity as an All-North Central Thumb League and All-District pick.

Name: Erika Garant

School: Almont

Year: Sophomore

Years on varsity: Two

Position: Catcher

Batting average: Garant contributed a .434 average, thanks to 36 singles, four doubles and three triples among 99 at bats. Her level of plate proficiency was best on the Almont ballclub and third out of those who attained Tri-City Times All-Area first team status.

She also wielded a .517 on-base percentage, logged her squad's highest run (33), steals (27) and walk (16) outputs plus tied for her team's third highest RBI (27) total.

She struck out just four times.

Postseason honors: Garant completed her second season on Almont's varsity as an All-Blue Water Area Conference first team choice.

Name: Terra Volmering

School: Imlay City

Year: Junior

Years on varsity: Two

Position: Catcher

Batting average: Volmering supplied a .395 average, thanks to 31 singles, nine doubles and two home runs among 114 at bats. Her level of plate proficiency was best on the Imlay City ballclub and fourth out of those who attained Tri-City Times All-Area first team status.

She also managed a .425 on-base percentage, amassed her squad's second highest RBI output (24), tied for her team's second best walk total (five) and contributed her squad's fourth highest run output (12).

Postseason honors: Volmering finished her second season on Imlay City's varsity as an All-Blue Water Area Conference first team selection.

Name: Cassie Spencer

School: Capac

Year: Senior

Years on varsity: Three

Position: Catcher

Batting average: Spencer generated a .350 average, thanks to 24 singles and three doubles among 77 at bats. Her level of plate proficiency was third best on the Capac ballclub and seventh out of those who attained Tri-City Times All-Area first team status.

She also drew her team's third highest walk output (13), tied for her squad's eight best RBI total (10) and tied for her team's ninth highest run output (six).

Name: Katelyn Kain

School: Capac

Year: Senior

Years on varsity: Four

Position: Third base

Batting average: She ranked fifth on the Capac ballclub and 10th out of those who attained Tri-City Times All-Area first team status with a .313 average.

Kain wound up with 22 singles, four doubles, two triples and three home runs among 99 at bats.

She also registered her squad's second highest RBI (28) and walk (14) outputs plus furnished her team's fourth best run total (23).

Postseason honors Kain concluded her fourth campaign on Capac's varsity as an All-Blue Water Area Conference honorable mention pick.

Name: Darcie Ball

School: Capac

Year: Junior

Years on varsity: Three

Position: Shortstop

Batting average: Ball generated a .541 average, thanks to 66 hits (a single season school record) among 122 at bats. Her level of plate proficiency was best on the Capac ballclub and out of those who attained Tri-City Times All-Area first team status.

She also logged her squad's stolen base total (31) and notched her team's fourth best RBI output (24).

Postseason honors: Ball capped her third season on Capac's varsity as an All-Blue Water Area Conference first team choice.

Name: Chelsea Thompson

School: Imlay City

Year: Senior

Years on varsity: Two

Position: Second base

Batting average: She ranked fifth on the Imlay City ballclub and 13th out of those who attained Tri-City Times All-Area first team status with a .273 average.

Thompson had 29 singles and one double among 110 at bats.

She also generated a .304 on-base percentage, supplied her squad's highest steal output (seven), tied for her team's second best run total (22), tied for her squad's fifth highest walk output (three) and provided her team's sixth best RBI total (10).

Postseason honors: Thompson ended her second campaign on Imlay City's varsity as an All-Blue Water Area Conference honorable mention selection.

Name: Jamie Green

School: Capac

Year: Senior

Years on varsity: Three

Position: First base/outfield

Batting average: Green supplied a .348 average, thanks to 29 singles, eight doubles and four triples among 112 at bats. Her level of plate proficiency was fourth best on the Capac ballclub and eighth out of those who attained Tri-City Times All-Area first team status.

She also amassed her squad's third highest run (31) and RBI (26) outputs plus tied for her team's fourth best walk total (10).

Postseason honors: Green completed her third year on Capac's varsity as an All-Blue Water Area Conference honorable mention pick.

Name: Lindsay Ladzinski

School: Almont

Year: Junior

Years on varsity: Three

Position: First base

Batting average: Ladzinski furnished a 316 average, thanks to 16 singles, eight doubles, four triples and two homers among 95 at bats. Her level of plate proficiency was fourth best on the Almont ballclub and ninth out of those who attained Tri-City Times All-Area first team status.

She also provided a .395 on-base percentage, notched her squad's second highest run (26), RBI (23) and stolen base (13) total and contributed her team's fifth best walk (nine) output.

Postseason honors: Ladzinski finished her second season on Almont's varsity as an All-Blue Water Area Conference honorable mention choice.

Name: Alyssa Dawson

School: Imlay City

Year: Senior

Years on varsity: Three

Position: Centerfield

Batting average: Dawson ranked second on the Imlay City ballclub and fifth out of those who attained Tri-City Times All-Area first team status with a .365 average.

She generated 26 singles, eight doubles, seven triples and one homer among 115 at bats.

Dawson also supplied a .371 on-base percentage, led her squad with 25 RBI, furnished her team's second second best steal output (five) and tied for her squad's second highest run total (22).

Second team- Devon Keeler, catcher, Dryden; Amy Kaltz, third base, Dryden; Kelley Finn, shortstop, Dryden; Chandler Katkic, shortstop, Imlay City; Nikki Heim, shortstop, Almont; Jackie Warner, first base, Dryden; Jackie Jessel, centerfield, Almont; Amanda Wood, leftfield, Dryden; and Olivia Leonardi, leftfield, Imlay City.

Coach of the Year- For directing Imlay City to a 22-13 overall mark and a 10-4 mark to rank third among Blue Water Area Conference teams, Jean Bannister earns Tri-City Times All-Area Coach of the Year accolades.
