June 09, 2010 ALMONT TWP. — There's been a slight change in plans for the M-53 road closure and detour that was to begin on Monday, June 14. According to the Michigan Department of Transportation, the closure has been slightly delayed and should begin on Wednesday, June 16.
Preliminary work for the box culvert replacement at Hollow Corners Road has been ongoing since last week.
"The closure and the detour will be in place for a total of 10 calendar days," said Armando Lopez, an MDOT engineer.
"This date and length of closure is subject to change due to inclement weather where the rain stops the progression of our aggressive work schedule."
The posted detour route for commercial traffic will have trucks using Dryden Road, M-24 and I-69. The posted detour route for all others will have cars using Dryden Road, Glover/Graham Road and Imlay City Road.
The road should re-open around June 26.
The entire project should be complete by August 14.
