June 09, 2010 Chances are cancer has crept into your life in one way or another. The disease does not discriminate. Rich, poor, young, old, black or white, cancer's tentacles reach deep into every aspect of our society.
It is right behind heart disease for the leading cause of death in the U.S., with one in four lives claimed by the disease.
Strides have been made to battle the disease and this weekend families, friends and neighbors will take literal strides to join the fight.
Relay for Life will unfold at the Eastern Michigan Fairgrounds beginning on Saturday morning. The American Cancer Society's signature event, Relay for Life is a 24 hour fundraising event aimed at fighting against the disease, celebrating those who've survived the battle and remembering those who lost the war.
Chances are, cancer has crept into all of our lives in one way or another, presenting an obstacle to rally against and overcome. We can all help in the battle.
We encourage everyone to come out to Relay for Life; bring the whole family, there are plenty of entertaining, fun and moving things to do. Come out and celebrate life, knowing the money you spend at the event will go toward a greater cause—the battle to conquer cancer once and for all.
