Almont second at BWAC, ends year as co-champions

TRI-CITY AREA — The Almont and Imlay City girls' tennis teams pulled up second and fifth, respectively, last Saturday at the Blue Water Area Conference Tournament.

Richmond's 49-point total paced the field assembled. They were followed by Almont (44 points), Yale (39), Armada (34), Imlay City (28), Algonac (16) and Cros-Lex (15).

Almont and Richmond will finish the season as Blue Water Area Conference co-champions, since Almont topped the dual season standings.

Bobbi Enos, Michelle Fox, Brooke Streber and Sierra Grant led Almont with first-place finishes that day. Enos claimed top flight honors with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Armada's Taylor Krause; Fox earned the distinction of second flight champion with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph against Richmond's Andrea DeCraene; Streber captured third flight honors with a 7-5, 7-6 (7-4) win over Yale's Trudi Palmateer; and Grant notched the distinction of fourth flight champion with a 5-7, 6-3, 6-2 victory against Richmond's Holly Uhl.

The Almont fourth doubles team of Krissy Fulton and Maddie Burns netted a third, that coming via a 7-5, 6-2 outcome versus Armada's Jill Reuter and Michaela Grande.

Jaime Ligon and Jessica Dayton (first doubles) plus Olivia Papineau and Miranda Offner (third doubles) added fourths to Almont's cause. The former closed out their tournament run with a 7-5, 2-6, 2-6 loss to Armada's Alyssa Goike and Angela Sztaba, while the latter concluded action with a 7-6 (8-6), 5-7, 2-6 setback to Algonac's Heidi Highstreet and Hannah Schmidt.

The first doubles team of Ysaline Couvreur and Ashley Dockham paced Imlay City with a second. Couvreur and Dockham reached their flight's title match where they fell by a 2-6, 1-6 count to Richmond's Nora Fa'atiga and Ashley Tocco.

Anne Pawlaczyk (first singles) plus Allison Parsch and Hayley Kensington (second doubles) tacked on thirds to Imlay City's cause. Pawlaczyk wrapped up her tournament stint with a 6-1, 6-2 win against Yale's Lorraine Schrand, while Parsch and Kensington finished play with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 victory over Yale's Eva Harasewycz and Conor Lutz.

Final BWAC Dual Standings- 1) Almont, 5-0-1; 2) Richmond, 5-1; 3) Yale, 4-1-1; 4) Armada, 3-3; 5) Imlay City, 2-4; 6) Algonac, 1-5; and 7) Cros-Lex, 0-6.
