Daily the scanner crackles with emergencies—many of them medical emergencies.

Traffic accidents, heart attacks, falls from ladders, sports injuries, drug reactions, suspected overdoses, inexplicable fainting spells and stomach problems are among the frantic 911 calls made by frightened people on a daily basis.

And on a daily basis EMS professionals respond. Whatever the situation is, they handle it with a cool head, calm and comforting demeanor and quick, fearless action.

EMS work is not easy. It is stressful, messy, physically and emotionally taxing and is often thankless. EMS service is something we take for granted but would miss terribly if it wasn't there.

EMS Week (May 16-22) offers us an opportunity to acknowledge the often heroic life-saving efforts EMS professionals put forth on a daily basis to provide care when it is needed most in situations that are often less than optimal with unquestionable dedication to the citizens of Lapeer and St. Clair counties.

Thank you to Lapeer County EMS and to Tri-Hospital EMS for your hard work and fearless action today and each and every day you respond to our medical emergencies.
