ALMONT — The Almont varsity softball team split a non-league doubleheader versus visiting Marine City Cardinal Mooney last Thursday.
In the opener, Marine City Cardinal Mooney (which appears on the honorable mention listing of the top Division 4 squads statewide according to the latest Michigan Softball Coaches Association poll) claimed a 13-5 win at Almont's expense.

Erika Garant (three) and Keeley Creger (two) notched Almont's top hit totals. Lindsay Ladzinski and Jackie Jessel added one hit each to the Raiders' cause.
In the nightcap, Almont bounced back for a 3-2 victory over Marine City Cardinal Mooney.
Creger again posted Almont's highest hit total, finishing with two. Hannah Leen, Rachel Rapp, Tiana Houghton, Nikki Heim and Kelsie Evans (one hit apiece) supported their performances.
Houghton was Almont's pitcher of record. She allowed two hits, struck out four and issued five walks over the seven-inning distance.
