April 28, 2010 ST.CLAIR COUNTY — As of noon on Thursday, April 29, I-69 near the Riley Center Road exit in Riley Township remained closed to traffic following a collision between two trucks—a garbage hauler and a county road commission truck. Eastbound traffic on I-69 is being diverted to Capac Road and westbound vehicles are exiting at Riley Center Road.
According to the sheriff's department, an investigation into the accident is ongoing.
Sheriff Tim Donnellon said the garbage hauler was westbound when it struck the county truck, one of three vehicles in a convoy performing road patching work. The garbage hauler caught fire in the interstate median.
Deputies, Mussey Township Fire and Rescue, Emmett Township Fire and Rescue, Tri-Hospital EMS and Richmond Lenox EMS all responded to the scene.
The drivers of both trucks were transported to a local hospital with undetermined injuries.
