Raiders move to 3-0 on season with non-league road triumph

ALMONT — Almont made host Port Huron High absorb a 9-5 loss in a non-conference varsity baseball encounter Monday afternoon.

With the decision, Almont goes to 3-0 overall.

In Monday's encounter, Almont used a two-run second inning; a one-run third; a two-run fourth; and a four-run seventh; to prevail.

Port Huron High countered with a one-run first inning; a one-run third; and a three-run seventh.

Joe Rottman got the win for Almont that day. He worked five innings, allowing two hits, striking out eight and walking two along the way.

Eric O'Connor came on in relief for Rottman, going the last two innings. He gave up one hit, struck out two and hit two batters over that stretch.

Dennis Harrow and Pat Russell (a single and a double each) along with Corey Downing (a pair of singles) led Almont's offensive attack. The Raiders also had Mike Grundner, Evan Shelton and John Finn (a single apiece) reach the hitting column.
