Ouillette, Orzel win powerlifing titles for Almont


Capac's Katelyn Parent finishes third in event

TRI-CITY AREA — Almont brought home a pair of top finishes from the Michigan State Powerlifting Meet held recently.

The event was contested Saturday, March 20 in Grand Rapids.

Junior Nick Ouillette headlined for Almont that day.

Competing in the Varsity 165-pound weight division, Ouillete registered a pacesetting output of 1,225 pounds. That represented a state record.

Ouillette's effort featured a 290-pound bench press; a state record squat lift of 435 pounds; and a 500-pound deadlift.

Sophomore Chase Orzel provided Almont with a pacesetting performance as well.

Participating in the Junior Varsity 220-pound weight division, Orzel logged a pacesetting total of 1,100 pounds.

Orzel's performance featured a 280-pound bench press; a squat lift of 360 pounds; and a deadlift of 455 pounds.

Katelyn Parent, of Capac, also gave a good account of herself at the Michigan State Powerlifting Meet.

The senior pulled up third in the Varsity 145-pound weight division on the strength of a 565-pound total.

Parent's effort featured a 110-pound bench press, a squat lift of 200 pounds; and a 255-pound deadlift.
