February 24, 2010 ALMONT — Almont assured themselves of at least a piece of the Blue Water Area Conference title with a 50-34 win against visiting Yale in a girls' basketball encounter last Friday night.
With the final, Almont moves to 13-5 and 10-2. Yale falls to 11-7 and 8-4.
In Friday's game, Almont opened up a 12-6 advantage after one quarter had ended and increased their lead to 22-9 at halftime.
Almont then outscored Yale 28-25 the rest of the way, assuring themselves of a 50-34 win at night's end.
Nikki Heim (13 points) and Tasha Evans (12) led Almont with double figure outputs. The Raiders also had Nicole Gibson (eight points), Taylor Askins (six, featuring a trey), Keeley Creger and Brittany Schmalzel (four each), Dani Reid (two) and Lindsay Ladzinski (one) reach the scoring column.
Evans and Ladzinski added eight rebounds apiece to Almont's cause.
Askins (six) and Heim (five) furnished the highest Almont assist outputs.
Janae Trombley paced Yale with 14 points. Trombley hit one triple en route.
